State Transit Authority bus seat fabric red and blue, 2007

The seat fabric on Sydney buses is covered with the State Transit Authority’s (STA) ‘graffiti’. Here the STA have developed their own graffiti in an attempt to stop the occurrence of illegitimate graffiti. Many designs could have been employed, to achieve the desired outcome, but what remains significant is that they have chosen to create their own legitimate graffiti.

Across contemporary culture the authorities are conforming to resistance in an attempt to silence it, and inturn reducing resistance to an act of conformity.

Placing the STA bus seat fabric behind glass in a clean white frame surrounded by blue, red and black permanent markers, conform exhibited at Mori Gallery, asks what can we do now?
